As mentioned in previous blogs, it was no accident that we have had a run of events including the Commonwealth Bank client information night at Golden Grove, the major Client event with Craig James (Chief Economist CommSec), the Toop Annual Awards night, a night up at the Barossa with some Forum mates and then tonight Gen's in-laws (nearly) tonight for dinner at the vineyard... What a week.
It was always a juggle to work around all the things that need to occur at this time of the year, some work initiatives and commitments and then a catch up with mates prior to the big op.
The Toop Awards night was pretty full on, a really awesome feeling and I really enjoyed seeing everyone, even though it was a high risk strategy given I need to stay away from sickies. What a night. It was so good to see everyone having a great time. So many hugs, a bit emotional actually. Seeing our girls stepping up and helping Sylv and I was very rewarding (as we no longer have all those boom time layers of people floating around the place to run these sort of events).
So a quick look at the past few days...
Friday was all about the Awards night, but also included some work meetings. It ended up quite late, like really late. Still can not sleep, mind was racing and I have been so wrestless, I feel sure it is all the food I am eating making me edgy and no drugs at all!!! I hit the sack about an hour before Sylvia and the girls, who stayed - as always - until stumps.
I hope Tanja can load some pics of the night on the Blog, some amazing outfits. The results from the guys were excellent and the difference in sales dollars between first and around 10th were the closest we can remember. Len Allington from our Golden Grove office took out the most prestigious Sales Person of the Year awards, and well deserved on his 10th anniversary of being in the Toop&Toop team - what a gentleman and a very popular winner.
Saturday was up early, breakfast with the kids and off to see if we could secure a home at auction for Tom and Gen. It was one of ours and Peter Fried was doing the auction for Ken Bruce, but Tom and Gen were way off the pace as it sold after some intense bidding. Just like the old days!!! From there, we raced over to St Peters where Tim was doing and Auction for the McMillans, and another huge auction result. Wow, I was very envious, I love doing auctions, especially when the bidding is so strong, two amazing auctions.
From there I was off to the Barossa to Collingrove for a forum meeting (CEO Education type get togethers for learning). This was a really excellent venue and we had dinner in the dining room that night after the the girls arrived late afternoon.
Sunday, awesome breakfast at Collingrove and then off to a couple of Cellar Doors (Rockfords, Marananga) before lunch at the magic Salters at Saltram Estate... Then home the back way to Kuitpo.
4.00pm we got back at the farm and I headed off for a walk around the property to try and burn off some energy; the girls arrived with Tom at almost the exact same time, while Tom's parents Jane and Don turned up for dinner on time just after 5.30pm.
Dinner was thanks to Gen, a fabulous cook and challenging Sylvia with her Lasagne. Lots of catch ups with lots of friends and family while I am feeling so well.
Talking of feeling well, I really struggle to imagine why I would be going head long into such a big operation at a time that I feel great. I asked the surgeon this exact question last week, but alas, if I want a total cure, there is no avoiding the pain and trauma of the op. Damn!!!
Everyone has left, I feel strong and I am not even tired. I don't get it. I have had a ridiculously busy week, flat out weekend, late nights, talking non stop... Why am I not tired? I feel like I am getting no sleep at all and toss and turn all night? MMMM!
Well, notwithstanding all of this, I know that staying well means staying away from sickies, eating well, exercising moderately and lots of sleep. By far and away, sleeping is so much easier at the vineyard so hopefully tonight I will sleep like a baby.
Tomorrow is a bit of a work day, but later than my normal start.
We had the Sunday Mail out to photograph our Awards night, I was a bit surprised to read today in the paper about my op rather than the pics of the night. Matt if you are reading this, I hope we can get a run next Sunday with some of the guys dressed in their "get up", the guys looked so awesome.
One final thing, how was Port Adelaide Saturday??! OMG!! So sad, and the talk-back radio was running red hot on the trip home from the Barossa... I feel so sorry for all the guys.
Lots of jokes to come, but not tonight.
A few days till show time.... Bring it on.
