Sylvia here updating the blog this weekend.
Going back to Friday night where we made the right decision not to head up to the vineyard until the following morning. Had a very interesting night monitoring Anthony's temperature & pain relief. Woke several times & finally at 3.15am reluctantly had to ring Tabitha for instructions as Anthony had a temp of 38.2.
We had been told previously anything over 38 & straight to Hospital. She talked us through some extra pain relief & we luckily had some antibiotics in our "home pharmacy" so managed to settle down his temp. We were to check in with Tabitha in the morning before leaving for the vineyard.
I had arranged to have coffee with Paula B early at HQ. We were supposed to go on our much planned cruise with them in May/June which for obvious reasons was cancelled. She was coming to visit to fill us in on the cruise & their fabulous holiday which I was really keen to hear about.
Teresa popped in with some chicken soup for Anthony & John Sykes popped in to say hello whilst he was taking a morning walk. At the same time calls were made to Tabitha who suggested it might be a good idea to stay close by & not head to the vineyard. She faxed some scripts to the Norwood pharmacy for collection later in the day. Anthony went for late morning sleep & all seemed under control.
Around 1.30pm we heated up Teresa's soup for lunch & I left Anthony happily eating whilst I headed off to the Norwood pharmacy to get the scripts. (on the soup front, Anthony's mum sent some over too so we have lots of soup to get through). I did hint that I may slip to the "shops" for a bit which was all cool. Had a 20 minute wait for the scripts so I headed to Burnside Village.
I went via Stuart Rd Dulwich & made a short stop at my favourite shop One Rundle Trading where I couldn't resist the "sales" & purchased a few essential items of clothing.
In my defence, you must remember that I haven't been shopping in ages & I did miss the Singapore Sales. Amanda (& her sister) were very kind asking after Anthony & she popped in a very thoughtful gift of organic body oil for his skin.
Then straight to Burnside to get Anthony some trendy PJ's for his upcoming hospital stay in August. I did do a quick scout through the windows of a few of the shops & there appears to be some amazing sales happening. Thought then I would need to return again soon. Now heading back to Norwood to collect scripts & get a phone call from Gen to say she was taking Anthony to Calvary Hospital & I was to meet them there. This was a bit of a surprise for me until I checked my phone & saw several missed calls & 2 texts from Anthony to come straight home. I didn't see or hear any of these come through. I felt really bad & quickly made my way to pick up scripts & straight to Calvary.
Got there just as Anthony was walking in & he was not looking so good. He had trouble getting down his lunch & when he couldn't keep down any fluids & his temp was rising, Tabitha made call to go straight to Hospital. Temp now hovering at 38.7. Forgot how slow it is processing patients as we had to wait for a nurse to come down to collect Anthony from reception.
After about 10mins & still in the waiting area, Anthony's contribution to his new best friend, a "little bucket", they obviously thought it wasn't a good look. People who entered the hospital were being greeted to some pretty bad noises, (& other things), so they rang again to have him collected.
By this time, Anthony's pain relief had worn off & he was feeling quite dehydrated. He was quite anxious to get "hooked up" to his medication, but again this all takes time. So over the next few hours with temperatures soaring to 40+, lots of pain, lots of contribution to the "little bucket", the doctors & nurses managed to get him to a state of stability before I left at 9.30pm. It didn't help that the Power were getting flogged as well.
Sunday morning and the start of a better day. Temp slowly coming down & hovering between 37-38. Able to eat some breakfast, taking fluids & lots of pain relief. Clinpath came in to take some blood to check if ok to be hooked up to some high level antibiotics this afternoon. Well enough to go downstairs to have a coffee with Tom & Gen at Hudson's. Back in the room now for some hospital lunch & rest.
Looks like a slow afternoon, but more comfortable than yesterday.
Booked in to see Tabitha in the morning & this will guide where to from here. We were hoping to drive to Melbourne next week for a few days but we are in her hands. (Wonder if she is up to some bribing from me.)
But all in all, a better day today & hopefully even better tomorrow.
I may let Gen update tomorrow - I am no writer ..... Sylvia
P.S. my shopping was not in vain - I left him last night tucked in bed in his new PA pyjamas looking "unwell" but very trendy.
Keep hanging in there Anthony, and Sylvia, pat on the back to you. Can't be easy watching a loved one in pain. G and myself send our love your way. Mon x x x
ReplyDeleteThanks Guys...as we have said before, and will again, if it doesn't kill you, it makes you stronger, and we are OK. Can't say cancer is on my best experiences hit list but it would make the most profound!
