Friday 18th May 2012 and it was time to get the low down on the Chemo. Ouch!! Wow, getting poisoned intentionally is not my ideal way on route to getting cured.
So with a million questions the entire family wandered the back blocks of Calvary Hospital trying to find Kimberly House and the Oncologist Dr Tabitha Healey. After more than an hour of grilling Tabatha, we all left feeling we had asked all the questions and the answers may not have been what we wanted to hear but non the less a feeling that we were getting the truth.
We went there with alternative medicines, went there with big pharmaceutical organisations exploiting the sick, and right down to the logic of what was being proposed. It was a very robust and informative meeting, and of course we recoded it so we could refer back to it. A lot to digest.
I arrived back to Kensington House to the most amazing black box and card from one of our team and this added to the most amazing gestures of food (had the soup for lunch, fruit for afternoon snack and all was yummy), cards messages and even a silver Boxing Glove symbolizing the fight to be had.
To all of you reading this, thank you. The support has been overwhelming.
I heard from Lew today, Mum may even get an iPad to follow the blog, go Mum.
Anyway, more appointments next week, more specialists, meetings with people in the know and lots of conversations. One thing for sure, for me...I have found not covering it all up and pretending has been therapeutic and makes me feel it is real and feel able to deal with it all. I don't feel alone, I don't feel like a victim and I feel very supported.
Tonight on the way to the Farm we are catching up with David and Karen Raffen, they have been away over seas and we are really keen to catch up. So many terrific friends.
So, Friday, 10 days on, all is good. I am feeling quietly confident and am preparing for battle. Great having Gen and Suz around, so there is an upside, hey!!
To my great mate,
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on your Blog, what a great job, not to mention courageous, but that just typifies you.
Anthony, you are a man of great character, values and mental strength. In our time as mates, you have always given me strength, provided me with guidance, motivation, inspiration, and I have always had comfort knowing that you were there.
Now in true Toop style, it is my turn to pay it forward.
Mate, I am here to walk through this journey together with you. Know that you are not alone.
It is time that you utilise all of your strength, motivation and inspiration for yourself.
You never cease to amaze me. Stay strong mate, know that I am always here, not only as your friend, but someone I love.
Catch up soon, Joe
Hey Newman, I'll do anything for attention...I really appreciate your words, you are an amazing mate. Gearing up for the fight. I feel good, and well supported and in no small way, with the backing of friends like you it makes it so much easier.
