Well my blog is going weekly unless something big happens, and I do thank those of you who have followed the journey, you are amazing.
I expect it will be Sunday evening that I will send a brief update, but this blog is really for anyone wanting to follow my cancer journey, and not an agenda driven marketing or real estate blog. I have made a target date of Wednesday 24th October as my return to work as it corresponds with my PA, Tanja's return from holidays, and it fits in with a few events that are work based.
The important feature of my thinking is that if I can only handle half days, so be it. My auctions and really public work events may take a little longer, I would run out of breath right at the moment with a full on auction, but hopefully it will not be long.
Sylvia and the girls have been amazing as have the team, but October gets extremely busy and all hands are required on deck at that time of year...I think I am nearly ready.
This week has been a mixed bag. As you know I have started going out to functions, and started having very small amounts of wine. I have also revisited the foods that seemed to be related to reflux. Tomato sauce, tomatoes, orange juice, beef and some others too. The weekend I haven't felt great so I do need to remember it is early days and I have a long way to go yet.
Sleeping sitting up is getting to me a bit. I tried lying on my right hand side at 3 am (so I had an empty stomach) and it was heaven. One and a bit hours later....OMG reflux and acid and it was not at all pleasant for some time. So not yet...but the ribs are settling down as I couldn't have even attempted my RHS a week ago. You may remember my LHS was not touched in the operation, and I lasted about a minute before getting reflux when I tried sleeping on that side.
The upshot remains sleep in the sitting position. Sleep is so much better but involves between 1 hour and 3 hour stints these days, a hell of a lot better than a couple of weeks ago.
Friday and the weekend involved plenty of quiet time yet we had a birthday for Frank M at the wine centre last night, and I was the designated driver. It was a long trip home and I have to say I did struggle as I am not party hardened. Socializing is actually hard work. Great night, ran into heaps of people and so that is the second weekend where I have pushed the boundaries a bit.
Sunday was a slow start, just Sylv and I up at the farm, and pottered around pruning the roses (bit late) and finished with an early picnic dinner at Picnic Dam. A couple of big walks, and hopefully I am gradually rebuilding.
This morning I was 68.1 KG and if I can stabilize at that weight, I will have done well.
So let week 6 begin,
Anthony
